IPL 2025: Four uncapped stars who shone in first week

adminBy adminMarch 27, 2025

The inaugural week of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has unveiled several promising uncapped talents who have delivered remarkable performances for their respective teams. Here are four standout players who have captivated fans and experts alike:

1. Vignesh Puthur (Mumbai Indians)

A left-arm wrist-spinner from Kerala, Vignesh Puthur made a sensational IPL debut for Mumbai Indians (MI). Despite lacking prior domestic cricket experience, Puthur was fast-tracked into the MI squad after being spotted in a local T20 tournament. In his debut match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he showcased his prowess by claiming three crucial wickets—Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda—finishing with figures of 3/32 in four overs. Although MI lost the match, Puthur’s performance earned him accolades from both fans and the MI management.

2. Priyansh Arya (Punjab Kings)

Known for his explosive batting, Priyansh Arya gained attention after hitting six consecutive sixes in an over during the Delhi T20 league. The 24-year-old left-hander continued his aggressive form in his IPL debut for Punjab Kings (PBKS) against Gujarat Titans. Arya scored a rapid 47 off 23 balls, including seven fours and two sixes, providing PBKS with a strong start. His fearless approach and wide array of shots have marked him as a player to watch this season.

3. Ashutosh Sharma (Delhi Capitals)

After a notable debut season with Punjab Kings in 2023, Ashutosh Sharma made a significant impact in his first appearance for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025. Coming in at a precarious 66/5 while chasing a daunting target of 210, the 26-year-old played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 66 off 31 balls. His innings, studded with five fours and five sixes, guided DC to a thrilling one-wicket victory, highlighting his temperament and finishing abilities under pressure.

4. Vipraj Nigam (Delhi Capitals)

At just 20 years old, Vipraj Nigam played a pivotal role in Delhi Capitals’ opening game triumph. Partnering with Ashutosh Sharma, Nigam contributed a quickfire 39 off 15 balls, featuring five fours and two sixes. Their crucial 55-run partnership for the seventh wicket turned the game in DC’s favor. Nigam’s effortless power-hitting and composure have earmarked him as a valuable asset for the team in the ongoing season.

These emerging stars have not only illuminated the first week of IPL 2025 but also underscored the league’s role in discovering and nurturing new cricketing talent. As the tournament progresses, fans will keenly follow their journeys, anticipating more stellar performances.
