“I Do Feel Bad”: Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Creator Asit Modi Breaks Silence on Controversies

adminBy adminApril 14, 2025

After months of public speculation and ongoing backlash, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) creator Asit Kumarr Modi has finally spoken out about the controversies surrounding the long-running sitcom. In a recent candid interview, Modi addressed the allegations and cast exits that have cast a shadow over the show’s otherwise stellar legacy.

“I Do Feel Bad,” Says Modi

Breaking his silence, Asit Modi admitted to being emotionally affected by the accusations made by former cast members. “I do feel bad,” he said. “This show has been my life’s work. I’ve nurtured it like a child. It hurts when people I’ve worked with for years speak negatively about it.”

Over the past few years, several beloved actors from TMKOC — including Disha Vakani (Dayaben), Shailesh Lodha (Taarak Mehta), Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal (Roshan), and others — have left the show under tense circumstances, with some alleging mismanagement, unpaid dues, and a toxic work culture.

Controversies and Cast Exits

Among the most talked-about controversies was Jennifer Mistry’s claim that she faced unprofessional behavior and harassment on the sets. She filed a formal complaint against the show’s makers, which prompted a public war of words between her and the production house. Shailesh Lodha, too, abruptly left the show after over a decade, later revealing in interviews that creative differences and a lack of mutual respect drove his decision.

Several fans have also expressed disappointment over the lack of transparency regarding these exits, especially in the case of Disha Vakani, whose return as Dayaben has been teased multiple times over the years without fruition.

Modi Defends His Vision

While expressing regret, Modi also defended his team and the production process. “It’s not easy to run a daily show for over 15 years. There are pressures, deadlines, and challenges. But we’ve always tried to treat our artists like family. I can’t stop anyone from feeling what they feel, but my intention was never to hurt anyone.”

He added that despite the criticism, the team continues to work hard to entertain audiences. “The show has survived for so long because of the love of the viewers. We are constantly evolving. Yes, we’ve had setbacks, but the spirit of Gokuldham Society lives on.”

What Lies Ahead

In the face of controversies, TMKOC still remains one of India’s most-watched and beloved sitcoms. With new characters being introduced and plotlines refreshed, the makers are hoping to revive the same magic that once made the show a household favorite.

Meanwhile, Asit Modi concluded with a message to fans: “Please don’t judge the entire journey based on a few difficult moments. We are learning, and we are trying to do better. My doors are always open for honest conversations.”

As TMKOC enters its 17th year, it remains to be seen whether the show can heal the fractures of the past while continuing to tickle the nation’s funny bone.
