Israel Pounds Iran for Third Consecutive Night; Tehran Claims 224 Killed, Including Generals

adminBy adminJune 16, 2025

Tensions in the Middle East escalated dramatically over the weekend as Israel carried out airstrikes deep into Iranian territory for the third consecutive night. Tehran has accused Tel Aviv of launching what it described as a “full-scale aerial assault” across key military and strategic sites, resulting in what Iranian authorities claim is a death toll of at least 224 people, including several top-ranking members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Israel’s Relentless Offensive

Israel’s military has remained tight-lipped about the details of the strikes, refusing to confirm the specific nature of operations or their targets. However, military analysts and local media reports suggest the strikes targeted missile bases, nuclear development facilities, and IRGC headquarters in Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz.

A senior Israeli defense official, speaking anonymously, stated:
“These strikes are part of a preemptive and necessary response to the direct threats Iran continues to pose to Israel’s national security and regional stability.”

Israel’s operations follow a deadly drone and missile attack last week that reportedly originated from Iranian-backed militias operating in Syria and Lebanon, killing 17 Israeli soldiers near the Golan Heights.

Iran Claims Heavy Civilian and Military Casualties

Tehran’s official statement condemned the Israeli bombardment as a “war crime” and vowed retaliation. Iran’s Ministry of Health confirmed 224 fatalities as of Monday morning, with dozens more injured or missing under rubble.

Among the dead are at least 12 senior IRGC commanders, including Brigadier General Reza Shakiba and Major General Mostafa Khorram, according to Iranian state TV. A funeral procession is scheduled to take place in Tehran’s Azadi Square tomorrow.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called the attacks “barbaric and unprovoked,” warning that “Israel will face consequences it has never imagined.”

Global Concern and Calls for Restraint

The international community has expressed growing alarm at the rapid deterioration of the Israel-Iran conflict. The United Nations Security Council is expected to hold an emergency session tonight, as fears of a broader regional war mount.

The United States, while reaffirming its support for Israel’s right to defend itself, urged both nations to de-escalate. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated, “The spiral of violence must end before it consumes the entire region.”

Meanwhile, Russia and China have strongly condemned the Israeli strikes, calling them “disproportionate and destabilizing.”

The Road Ahead

With Tehran promising a “swift and severe” response, military observers warn that the Middle East is on the brink of a wider conflict that could pull in regional powers and proxy groups from Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and even Yemen.

Israel has raised its national alert level to the highest tier, and civilians in major cities have been advised to remain near shelters. Iran, too, has mobilized its air defenses and placed key military bases on high readiness.

As the world watches with bated breath, the hope for diplomacy seems more distant than ever. For now, the skies over the region remain ominously active, and the specter of war looms larger with each passing night.
