Kareena Kapoor at WAVES Summit: “Don’t Need to Work in Hollywood to Get Noticed”

adminBy adminMay 2, 2025

Bollywood icon Kareena Kapoor Khan delivered a powerful statement during her appearance at the WAVES Summit 2025, emphasizing that Indian actors don’t need to go to Hollywood to earn global recognition. The event, held in Mumbai on May 1, brought together influential voices from entertainment, technology, and global business to discuss evolving trends in media and identity.

During a panel discussion focused on “Global Stardom and Indian Cinema’s Reach,” Kareena said, “I truly believe Indian actors don’t need to work in Hollywood to be recognized globally. Our stories, our reach, and our fan base are massive. Indian cinema has its own unique power.”

The actress, who has been one of Bollywood’s most recognizable faces for over two decades, spoke about how Indian films today are making waves internationally without necessarily needing validation from the West. “Look at how films like ‘RRR’, ‘Dangal’, and ‘Kantara’ have traveled. Audiences across the world are curious about our cinema, culture, and characters,” she added.

Kareena, known for roles in Jab We Met, Tanu Weds Manu, Omkara, and more recently Jaane Jaan, also emphasized the importance of authenticity and staying connected to one’s roots. “It’s not about where you act—it’s about what you represent. I’m proud to be a part of the Indian film industry, and that’s enough for me.”

Her comments resonated with many at the summit, especially in light of the growing number of Indian actors making headlines internationally, not by chasing foreign projects, but by bringing Indian content to global platforms.

The WAVES Summit also featured other prominent speakers including filmmaker Zoya Akhtar, entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, and Hollywood producer Jason Blum, who all acknowledged the increasing global appetite for non-Western narratives.

Kareena concluded by saying, “It’s time we stop measuring success by Hollywood standards. India is its own star, and we are just getting started.”
